The Allen Civic Ballet will present its 11th annual production of the holiday classic “Nutcracker,” at 7:00 p.m. Saturday, December 12th and 2 p.m. Sunday, December 13th at the Lowery Freshman Center Auditorium at 120 N. Jupiter Rd. in Allen.
The abridged version of the “Nutcracker” is perfect for families with small children and has proved popular for years. “I am so gratified that people keep coming back year after year; so many local children have grown up watching this production,” says Stefanie Best, Artistic Director of the Allen Civic Ballet, “in fact many of the dancers involved in this production were introduced to ballet by watching our ‘Nutcracker.’”
This year’s production includes some new costumes and scenery. “We have been growing our production for the past ten year and we are so grateful for the generosity of the community in making this possible,” says Mary Muller, Vice President of the Ballet. The Allen Civic Ballet receives funds from the City of Allen, the Allen Arts Alliance and local businesses and individuals.
The “Tea with the Sugar Plum Fairy” fundraiser held each December is as popular as the “Nutcracker” performances, with all three seatings regularly selling out. Guests are served tea and treats and visit with their favorite “Nutcracker” characters. Menu items include Clara’s Favorite Party Tea Sandwiches and the Sugar Plum Fairy’s Splendid Peppermint Tea Chocolates, among others. Menu items have been donated by such local businesses as Cici’s Pizza, Hands on Design, Market Street, Souper Salad, Kroger, Sublime Chocolate, DiviniDee Cakes, Tom Thumb, Super Target, Two Rows Classic Grille and Starbucks. This year’s Tea will be held December 5th at Christ the ServantLutheranChurch in Allen.
Tickets for the “Nutcracker” and reservations for “Tea with the Sugar Plum Fairy” are $10 each. Tickets go on sale on Saturday, November 14th and may be purchased with cash, check or credit card. Purchases may be made via telephone, e-mail or in person.
