Over 200 grandparents, and even some great-grandparents, of St. Pius X Catholic School students were honored at a special Mass and reception November 25, 2009. The celebration started with an inspirational Mass led by the parish pastor, Fr. Michael Guadagnoli. Second grade students were dressed as Pilgrims and Indians, which created a festive Thanksgiving atmosphere. Fr. Guadagnoli and many of the St. Pius X School students emphasized all the wonderful things for which we are thankful.
After Mass, grandparents enjoyed scrumptious breakfast casseroles, coffee, and donuts while the St. Pius X School’s choir, directed by Mrs. Deborah Stribling, sung beautiful songs to get everyone in the mood for the holidays. Following breakfast, many of the grandparents were treated to tours of the school by St. Pius X School 7th graders and invited to visit their grandchildren in their classrooms. Byron and Eva Evans, grandparents of Zak and Noah Wahlstrom, said, “We thoroughly enjoyed the way the entire school made us feel so special. It was nice to be honored by so many people. All of the students exhibited great pride in showing their campus to their grandparents!” Stephanie Wahlstrom, a member of the school Advisory Council, enthused, “What a wonderful way to celebrate those you love! As I looked around, I saw so many smiling faces. I don’t know who was happier – the grandparents or the children.”
Grandparents who were not able to attend were given the opportunity to send letters to their grandchildren. Grandparents Day 2009 was a fantastic success! We are all looking forward to the 2010 Grandparents Day celebration!
