The boxed, fresh-cut greenery arrived in Highland Park via refrigerated semi-trailer, at 53-feet-long longer than the largest moving van, from Washington State.
The post-Thanksgiving arrival of the greenery from Sherwood Forest Farms is a Troop 70 tradition.
Scouts are joined by adult leaders and parents in the tedious unloading and sorting process of hundreds of boxes, containing some 1,600 wreaths, garlands and centerpieces.
Scout moms provide hot chocolate, sandwiches and treats and the day takes on a festive air, despite the cold and rain.
Troop 70 scouts have been selling the greenery door-to-door in the Park Cities every October for the last 42 years. It is the troop's only fundraiser and supports participation in national BSA jamborees.
Although all greenery orders have been distributed, a few items remain for sale. Residents can call the troop greenery chair Bobbie Baxter at (214) 520-2029 for an update on remaining stock.
