Celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Scouting movement in America, Circle Ten Council’s North Trail District will hold its annual Awards Banquet on Sunday, Jan. 24 at Eddie Deen’s Ranch banquet facility at 944 South Lamar in Downtown Dallas.  Doors will open at 4:30 p.m.

Featured at the event will be the recognition of two very special district Scouts from Richardson Troop 444.  On October 20, 2007, North Dallas residents Joshua Raynes and Christopher M. Rogers, who with quick use of their Scout-taught first aid skills, saved the life of a fellow Scout who was seriously injured by an errant model rocket. Their fast-thinking action earned them the Boy Scouts of America’s coveted Heroism Award.

Also honored will be a number of district and unit volunteers whose countless hours of devoted service have benefitted thousands of local Scouts this past year. Special presentations will include the annual Robert E. Little Award, the District Award of Merit, and Your Extraordinary Service Award, fondly known as the “YES” Award.

“Our district is blessed with an extraordinary number of adult volunteers who have given years of selfless service to the program,” says Kimberly Colonnetta, North Trail District chair, parent of three Boy Scouts and Preston Hollow resident.  “Many years, we are able to announce at the banquet the names of those who will receive the Silver Beaver Award, the highest award that a local Council can present a volunteer.”

Keynote speaker, David C. Scott, the author of the book “We Are Americans, We Are Scouts,” will speak on the critical impact that President Theodore Roosevelt had on the formation of the American Scouting movement and talk about Roosevelt’s principles of living a “duty-driven” life.

Mr. Scott is an Eagle Scout with five Palms, a Wood Badge trained leader, and a Vigil Honor member of Scouting’s national honor society, the Order of the Arrow. As a member of the Boy Scouts of America’s National Speakers Bank, he travels the country presenting motivational and inspirational talks to patriotic and fraternal organizations, as well as to Scouting councils, districts, and units. When at home in North Dallas, he serves as the Cubmaster of Pack 585, which meets at Richardson ISD’s Northwood Hills Elementary School and is chartered by the BPO Elks Lodge #2485.

Individual tickets and tickets for tables of eight for this special event are available at www.northtrail.org.  The cost of tickets purchased by Monday, Jan. 18 is $25 per person.  After that date, the cost is $30 per person.  Each family that attends will receive one copy of Mr. Scott’s book.
