Allen Eagles Win Dual State Wrestling Championships - Again!

1 Rating / 0 Comments

Down to the wire, the Allen wrestling team defeated the Canyon Randall Raiders by a slim one point margin on Saturday in Amarillo to walk away with the Texas High School Coaches Association Dual State Wrestling Championship for the second year in a row.

Going into the last match of the day, the Eagles needed a major decision to win – and Sophomore Jarrod Trotter made it happen with a 13-4 win at the 119 pound weight class. With a final team score of 36-35, the Allen Eagle grapplers again took home the first place trophy.

“At Dual State, it’s all about the team, and we had a lot of guys wrestling up weight classes, and we had JV wrestlers who stepped up to some tough varsity competition so we could win.” Said Head Coach, Jerry Best. "I'm really proud of the team effort."

Through the day-long tournament, Allen posted lopsided wins over El Paso Hanks (65-9), Houston Westside (53-16) and Vista Ridge (63-21) to win their pool, and defeated Flower Mound 59-18 to make it to the finals against Canyon Randall.

“I definitely want to thank all the parents and fans who made the long drive to Amarillo to support the team – we had a tremendous crowd!” added Best, “Now, we are focused on UIL state and hoping to see an even bigger crowd in Austin.”

The UILState Wrestling Tournament will take place February 26-27 at the Austin ISD Delco Center.
