St. Pius School "Half-Bloods" Have a Party!

1 Rating / 1 Comment

Do you know what tree stands atop half-blood hill?  St. Pius X School children do!

They celebrated the upcoming release of Percy Jackson’s Lightning Thief movie with a party after school Wednesday, February 10.  Sixty half-bloods (students) from 3rd grade through 8th grade attended.

Students rotated through five different stations participating in different games on their quest to become a hero.   Along the way they indulged in Percy’s love of blue food by eating blue cupcakes and jello.  They also stopped in their quest to make their own shields and swords, as well as testing their knowledge with many Greek trivia games.

Although the half-blood students at St. Pius helped plan the creative ideas for this celebration, many of the teachers jumped in to help with the festivities and dressed up as Greek characters.

According to Kathleen Huggins, the librarian and brain behind the party, “The party was an overwhelming success because of the involvement of the students and teachers.   It goes to show you that book reading is not dead!  And bringing stories to life only enhances the popularity of reading at St. Pius School.   I can’t keep the Lightning Thief books on the shelf!”

By the way, the answer is a pine tree!
