Middle school students from around the DISD competed January 30th at the Townview Center High School in the District Science Fair to see who could claim the top prizes and move on to represent their school at the regional level. When the judging was over with J. L. Long Middle School had 16 of its students win or place! Long also won the trophy for the Best overall middle school, an honor they have won for the majority of the last 10 years. These future scientist, engineers, and inventors won in a wide range of categories like Botany, Engineering, Physics, and Microbiology, to name a few. The students will go on to compete in the regional competition February 27th at Fair Park. “The Dallas Regional is considered one of the most competitive in the state”, says J. L Long 8th grade science teacher Karen Gillum, “and if you can win here then you will probably do very well at the state level.” Unlike at the district competition, at the regional the student will have to be present with their project and be prepared to answer any questions the judges may have.
