St. Pius Fifth Graders Raise Funds for St. Jude Children's Hospital

0 Ratings / 0 Comments

The 5th grade students at St. Pius X Catholic School in east Dallas decided to put into action the lessons they have been learning regarding charity and compassion toward others.  As a class project they participated in the St. Jude MATH-A-THON.  Even the prospect of working hundreds of extra math problems did not curb their enthusiasm.

What really made the service project more meaningful was that a teacher at the school, Mrs. Hall, has a 5 year old grandson, Ethan Tate, with leukemia.  The 5th graders really felt by raising money for St.JudeHospital they would be helping Ethan in his fight to battle cancer.  Fifth grader Alex Lozano remarked that, “It felt good because we got to help kids just like us.  They have cancer and I’m helping them to be cancer free and not in the hospital.”

All 35 fifth grade students participated and by working together they were able to raise $2,715.15.  This is not the first time the students at St. Pius X School have supported St. Jude Children’s Hospital.  Over the years the school has raised $50,390.10 in support of St. Jude’s.  The students at St. Pius X Catholic School happily and proudly live the parish motto – “Love One Another.”

St. Pius X Catholic School is located at 3030 Gus Thomasson Rd, Dallas, Texas 75228. The school admits students of any race, nationality, or religion. To contact the school, call 972-279-2339 or email rweaver@spxdallas.org.
