The Jasper High School auditorium was full of energy this past weekend as the Jasper Jazz Drill Team entertained a sellout crowd with their annual spring show. The performance took place Friday and Saturday, May 7 and 8.
This year’s theme, J Magazine, took the audience through the pages of a magazine. Each act in the show represented a feature in thistrendy publication portrayed through jazz, tap, modern, and hip-hop dance. The opener, a dynamic high-kick routine, set the stage for the rest of the evening and left the audience cheering for more. “The Perfect Love Quiz” included Jasper HS guys in a couples' dance. The travel feature, “Choo Choo – Luxury on a Train,” unfolded popular vacation destinations. “Know Your History” was interpreted by the Jasper Jazz officers while Jazz Company performed “Know When to Take a Risk.” Guest entertainers included JHS Cheerleaders, Dominic Walker, Tuesday’s Mourning, and 2008-09 Jazz Captain Stefani Sandridge. Hannah Daniels, 2009 - 2010 Jazz Captain, performed “A Special Thanks From the Editor” as her solo. The video presentation, "Best Year Ever" shared memories of the fantastic 2009 - 2010 Jasper Jazz season. The show came to a climax as it closed with “World, Hold On,” a powerful modern dance piece performed by the entire Jazz team and featured Julia Goebel as soloist.
“The saying ‘hard work pays off’ is so true!” stated Jen Morrow. “These young ladies have been working since November to put on this incredible production. I cannot be more proud of them! They really showed their talent and dedication through this exciting show. Many tears Saturday night after finishing the show, but all happy tears as they have so many positive things to remember this year as a Jasper Jazz.”
Choreographers for the spring show were director Jen Morrow, assistant director Kathy Conklin, Jazz officers, and guest choreographers Lindsey Henderson and Sara Ormsby. Jasper Jazz Boosters supported this production while led by spring show co-chairs Rhonda Connolly, Lori Moore, and Dovie Gore, and program sales and layout chair Beth Dwyer.
Kathy Conklin exclaimed, “The girls looked beautiful; the energy was in the air...They deserve the praise they received from their audiences. Many remarked the show was ‘awesome,’ ’amazing,’ and they were ‘blown away!’"
The Jasper Jazz Drill Team is composed of sophomore girls from Jasper High School in Plano, Texas. Jasper Jazz performs at all home football games for the Jasper Jaguars sophomore football team. The team also performs at some basketball games, events around Plano, and their annual spring show.
