More than 30 pieces of artwork, springing from the imaginations of more than 30 students, from the Richardson and Garland independent school districts, Akiba Academy, the Shelton School, and Harmony Science Academy, were on display at the second annual Young Artist Showcase, sponsored by State Rep. Carol Kent.
The yearly event was held on May 8, 2010, at the RISD AdministrationBuilding, in Richardson. Approximately 60 people attended the gallery review of artwork that illustrated this year's showcase theme, "Texas, Our Texas."
"I'm quite impressed with the level of artwork received in our Young Artist Showcase," said Rep. Kent. "It is more than apparent our school's are filled with children who are gifted with abundant creativity and talent."
Public and private school students, at the elementary and secondary levels, participated in the showcase. Incorporating this year's theme, students submitted a wealth of entries, in a variety medium, including charcoal, pastels, watercolors, and acrylic and oil paintings that captured the essence of "Texas, Our Texas."The students' artwork also will be on gallery display at the state Capitol in Austin, from Monday, May 17, 2010, through Wednesday, May 26, 2010.
