DFW TOYS FOR TOTS MOTORCYCLE RIDE IN McKINNEY

2 Ratings / 2 Comments

As far as the eye could see, chrome, leather and love lined the roads for the 5th Annual Toys for Tots Motorcycle Run in McKinney on December 4th. The event began at Family Power Sports at 2110 N. Central Expwy. with registration and socializing. The ride began just before noon, with marine and police escorts through the scenic back roads of northeastern Collin County. The ride ended at the McKinney VFW Lone Star Post on Church Street where the participants donated thousands of toys. Marines were on hand to accept and load the generous gifts for their annual fundraiser.

One of the event founders, David Marks, commented," 654 motorcycles were registered with over 807 riders, but many arrived after the registration closed and just joined in the ride. This was the greatest turnout. The weather was beautiful and the scenic 44 mile ride was awesome."

Major General USMC (retired) Bill Gossell ,who is the civillian liaison, was very honored to attend the event and be the official spokesperson. Dozens of volunteers made the huge undertaking run like clockwork. Blue Star and Gold Star Mothers were in attendance to collect donations and sell raffle tickets to help support the many projects that benefit our troops. Gold Star Mother, Gina Trovillion and Blue Star Mother, Karen Marks were delighted that they had just sent off 200 gift packages to our troops oversees. Mrs. Marks said, " My son was being deployed today. I said good-bye to him at home this morning and came here to do my part for the other sons and daughters away from home at Christmas."

This time of year brings out the generosity of many people, but North Texans are extremely generous and patriotic all year round. The Lone Star State may not be alone in its generosity and kindness, but I believe their star shines brighter than all the rest.
