It's a Low Tech Life for these students...

1 Rating / 1 Comment

From a field of over 200 entries, “Low Tech Life” a music video produced by third grade students from Melissa Ridge Elementary is one of five k-5 finalists in an international video contest sponsored by Interwrite Learning, a premier global provider of interactive learning solutions.  They are competing to win a complete interactive technology classroom makeover worth more than $15,000. Eight year old Jonathan Friesen, the student director for the project, takes great pride is explaining his role.  “I had to make them do the stuff right.” He states with authority.  Olivia Lucas loved filming the scene where the students leaned in over the camera to point out that they have no projector on the ceiling. “We got to put our desks in a circle and sit on them.  It was really fun.”

Every student in Karen Rose’s third grade class was involved in the video.  “It was important to me that every student participate.  Too many times technology is viewed as something only for the most advanced students, and it has a reputation as being a male oriented field.  Kids today are known as digital natives because they have grown up in a digital society.  Technology is something that every student relates to and benefits from.  It is a natural way for them to express themselves and a great outlet for their creativity.”
Right now, the public is being asked to vote for their favorite video.  Being from the small community of Melissa, Karen Rose’s Class would greatly appreciate any support North Texas can offer! To help this class have a high tech life, please go to http://contest.interwritelearning.com/contestant/26/.  If you click on the vote for this video icon, it will take you to a login screen where you can register to vote.  Make sure to register first and then vote for their video called “Low Tech Life” before the contest ends on November 10th.
