Beginning a fun tradition this year both Rockwall and Heath High School swim teams hosted the very first RISD Duck Call Meet. The meet was between the Rockwall ISD and the Mesquite ISD with events and relays featuring a commingling of athletes from different schools within their respective districts.
Senior Caitlyn Wells of Heath opened the meet by singing the national anthem and then it was off to the races! Both Rockwall’s Orange Wave and Heath’s Aqua Hawks swim teams, combined to represent the RISD with a big win over Mesquite. Mesquite’s team comprised swimmers from Horn, North Mesquite, Mesquite, Poteet and West Mesquite high schools. The final tally was RISD Girls 106; MISD Girls 59; and RISD Boys 100; MISD Boys 67. The unusual meet featured the presentation of rubber ducks to all heat winners. Rockwall team parent, Keith Due, did the honors of making the authentic duck call announcing each heat winner.
RISD paddled out with 40 ducks in all. Winning chicks include: Rebekah Yount, Jacey Hodan, Aly Heuer and Caitlyn Wells in the 200 Yard Medley Relay; Dominique Cordova and Katelyn Gaston in the 200 Yard Freestyle; Katie Langdon in the 200 Yard IM; Caitlyn Wells and Morgan Madrid in the 50 Yard Freestyle; Coral Davenport in the 100 and 500 Yard Freestyle; Jacey Hodan and Astrea Sait in the 100 Yard Backstroke; Jacey Hodan and Astrea Sait in the 100 Yard Breaststroke; and Rosie Hughes, Coral Davenport, Amy Rogers and Katie Langdon in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay.
Bringing it home for the drakes were: Ryan Lang, Jonathan Walters, Mitchell Foster and Dustin Fontenot in the 200 Yard Medley Relay; Zach Crumply and Brandon Woolbright in the 200 Yard Freestyle; Zach Crumply and Kyle Killion in the 200 Yard IM; Samson Chung Yu and PJ Rock in the 50 Yard Freestyle; Samson Chung Yu and Sterling Lockhart in the 100 Yard Butterfly; John Michael Baker in the 100 Yard Freestyle; Jonathan Walters in the 500 Yard Freestyle; Dustin Fontenot, Jonathan Walters, Jared Tokuz and Sterling Lockhart in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay; Jonathan Walters and Brendan Wells in the 100 Yard Backstroke; and Brendan Wells in the 100 Yard Breaststroke.
Entering the final phase of their competitions before their District Meets, Rockwall will take on Tyler Lee on January 5th at noon at the Rockwall YMCA and Heath will take on Lovejoy there at 6:00pm on January 11th.
